New FSC Floor Made with Old Pallets
A couple days after writing about Arctic Plank floors made with reclaimed shipping pallets, Oregon-based Viridian Wood Products announced two new flooring products made from shipping pallets and crates. The two lines are FSC-certified, 100% reclaimed, and available with or without a low-VOC polyurethane finish.
One line, Jakarta Market Blend, comes from the tropical lowlands of Asia with four finishes — Dark Sort, Light Sort, Tropical Mix, and Rustic. The other, Fishtail Oak, has iridescent copper flecks with the slight look of a fishtail.
Viridian Wood Products may contribute towards LEED credits in a number of categories, including for materials reuse, recycled content, regional materials, and certified wood.

NyloDeck Made Sans Wood and PVC
NyloDeck is a new(ish) composite deck board made with 100% recycled, post-consumer nylon carpet fibers and Elastopor rigid polyurethane foam from BASF. The material doesn’t include wood or PVC like some other composites, and it’s made to be natural looking, light, easy to handle, and resistent to moisture, mold, and termites.
It made BuildingGreen‘s Top 10 products list last year.
Available in three colors, NyloDeck comes standard in 12′, 16′, and 20′ lengths (with 24′ custom). It’s suitable for new and replacement decks, boat docks, outdoor stairs, ADA ramps, park benches, outdoor seating, and other similar applications.
NyloDeck is made in Covington, Georgia (near Atlanta). If you were at Greenbuild, NyloDeck would have been on display in the BASF booth #3746S. If you noticed NyloDeck or have experience with the material, let us know what you think.

Crossville Exhibits Eco-Friendly Tile Lines
Tennessee-based Crossville, Inc. announced at Greenbuild this week that the company is the first tile manufacturer in the US to achieve certification of its waste recycling programs through Scientific Certification Systems, or SCS. This certification is third-party verification of the fact that all tile produced by Crossville will contain a certain amount of recycled content, according to a company press release.
For example, Mixology, a wall tile that replicates cast metal, has 50% post-consumer recycled content. It comes in mosaics, seven field tile designs in two sizes, and 10 trim options with four available finishes.
Main Street has pre-consumer recycled-content ranging from four to 20% (depending on the color). The tile includes pre-consumer fired sanitary ware from Toto, a luxury plumbing products company. Also, Bluestone, which is enhanced with fossil-like impressions and the subtle pearlescence of embedded shells, contains a minimum of 20% pre-consumer recycled content.
The photos in this article show each product, Mixology, Main Street, and Bluestone. If you’re at Greenbuild, Crossville tiles will be available to view in booth #536N. Drop by the booth and come back to let us know what you think.
