Viridian Intros Reclaimed Wood Veneers
Oregon-based Viridian Wood Products, maker of shipping pallet flooring, recently introduced a line of new architectural-grade veneer panels made with reclaimed North American wood. The 4′x8′ panels include old-growth redwood previously used in wine tanks, Oregon black walnut reclaimed from urban salvage, and old-growth Douglas fir from warehouse deconstruction.
Viridian produces the panels in Portland with urea formaldehyde-free, FSC-certified MDF in a variety of thicknesses.
The new veneer panels can be used for casework, cabinetry, wall panels, and the like and may contribute toward LEED credits for materials reuse, recycled content, regional materials, and certified wood. Viridian can provide a price quote.

Kirei Debuts New Reclaimed Wood Panel
True to the company name, California-based Kirei USA recently announced a beautiful, new material for 2012 called Windfall. Windfall is an engineered wood panel made with a low-VOC adhesive and lumber from deconstructed buildings in the Pacific Northwest. It’s suitable for wall paneling, casework, signage, and other similar applications.
Windfall is available in several colors — unfinished, clear, anthracite, mocha, ivory, and leather. Panels are 3/4″ thick and come in 27″ x 96″ (solid) or 48″ x 96″ (three-ply).
The panels carry 100% FSC Mixed credit certification, according to Kirei, and may contribute toward LEED credits in several categories, such as for recycled content, certified wood, low-emitting materials, and regional materials (500 miles of Tumwater, Washington).

Boral Intros Cradle to Cradle Exterior Trim
After five years of internal and third-party testing, Boral USA today announced the introduction of TruExterior Trim, an exterior trim material made with a blend of bio-based polymers and coal combustion product materials. The poly-ash product contains a minimum of 70% recycled content and a Cradle to Cradle Certified Silver designation.
TruExterior Trim contains the highest amount of recycled content of any other trim on the market, according to Boral USA, and can be handled, held, and painted just like wood.
The material composition makes it durable and free from rotting, splitting, and termites, according to Boral USA. The company also says TruExterior Trim doesn’t require end sealing or special adhesives and can be used in ground-contact installations.
TruExterior Trim is suitable for a variety of applications such as fascia boards, soffits, frieze boards, rake boards, garage door casings, window surrounds, and door trim.

Reclaimed Joshua Collection by Amenity
The word reclaimed is often used these days. Just in the past week or so, we’ve seen a reclaimed bathroom, reclaimed pallet floors, and reclaimed housing. So here’s one more: reclaimed furniture in the form of the new Joshua Collection by Amenity. Named for the famous Joshua Tree, this furniture is handmade from Douglas Fir that was harvested and milled 50-100 years ago and seasoned in the sun of California for decades.
Amenity says the use of reclaimed wood in this case leads to less forest clear cutting, less landfill usage, and reduced air pollution. In addition, the Joshua Collection is finished with low-VOC finishers and non-toxic stains.
The platform bed sells from $1600 – $2100, depending on the size, while the wood dresser sells for $1850. However, the new collection is priced 10% less when purchased with “joshua” at checkout through November 15th (subject to availability).
